Which Sustainable Development Goals will your Monster work on?

Brazil

Milene Fernandes' mixed age group pf boys and girls at Casa Amarela in Bahia, Brazil.
Our Instituto Casa Amarela is a Brazilian non-governmental organization. We maintain our activities through voluntary and philanthropic donations. We offer free extra-curricular education for socially vulnerable children with little access to opportunities. Our geographic coordinates are 16⁰ south and 39⁰ west, City of Santa Cruz Cabrália, southern coast of Bahia. In 2024 we take the arms of the monster. Human arms, chilling, the color of all skin, their embrace destroys all hatred and transforms it into love. We are attentive to working towards the SDGs, mainly inequality and quality schools. But I want to know from the children's perspective. If you can help us, follow our social network on Instagram @casaamarelascc. There's a lot of chilling adventure ahead.

This week we started the presentation of the Global Monster Project program, we talked about the UN and learned to identify our geographical position on planet Earth and compared it with the UN's position in New York. The students really liked the topic and the next day they used cell phone technology to check what they had learned. The climate here in Bahia is hot all year round, it also rains a lot, which guarantees great harvests. Below 20⁰ here is considered cold and above 40⁰ very hot.

STEM & Sustainable Goal: Clean Water and Sanitation

Our monster places his right furry hand in the water to absorb it and it filters through his liver
and it comes out the other hand clean. The monster uses his magnetic gold ring on his left hand
to attract garbage in the water and he eats it and recycles it for energy.

Saudi Arabia

Ms. Jessica Charvat -  3rd and 4th graders at Saudi Aramco Expatriate School in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia.
We are located at 26.7730 degrees N and 49.9982 degrees E. Our yearly high happens in July and August when it gets up to 44 degrees C (111 F). Our yearly low is January when it can get as low as 10 degrees C (50 F).
We are a school that serves the expat community so everyone is from other countries. We have students in the project from India, South Africa, Argentina, the USA, Pakistan, Lebanon, Canada, and probably other countries (some students were missing when we met). Everyone learns in English and some of our favorite subjects are PE and art. The things we love to do in the community are play soccer, go bowling, swim at the pool, play at the rec center, play with friends, and go to the beach. We are very lucky to live right on the Arabian Gulf so we can go to the beach after school and on the weekends.

We talked about the SDGs and number 14 - Life Below Water is the one that they wanted to focus on. We live right on the Arabian Gulf and so when they go to the beach they see a lot of trash and the wildlife that interacts with it. We also have a sea turtle rescue center on our compound that many of them have visited.

California

This is Ms. Tsukamoto and Mrs. Young's 3rd and 5th grade class. We are a buddy class from Cupertino, CA, USA. Our longitude and latitude is 37.3230N and 122.0322 W. We are located in the southern end of the San Francisco Bay Area. We have an average of 260 days of sunshine. Our highs and lows are 43F to 76 F.

Lincoln Elementary School is one of 26 schools in the Cupertino Union School District in northern California. The school is 45 minutes south of San Francisco. It is in the heart of Silicon Valley. Due to our mild climate, we can do many outdoor activities. Our city is known for Apple Computers because the company was founded here. We have around
630 students from all different backgrounds at our school. Our classes are looking forward to the project and learning about all the other students and where they hail from.

SDGs the students of Lincoln Elementary think are important for the whole world are:

Florida

Hi, we are Ms. Baden’s 3rd/4th/5th grade class from Lake Asbury Elementary School located in Green Cove Springs, Florida. Our school mascot is Rams. We are a class of 15 students, 1 teacher and 2 assistants. We like working on Chrome Books and learning about science and social studies. We are really EXCITED about building our monster and having him in our classroom.
We are located at 30.052914 degrees latitude and -81.81629 degrees longitude. The temperature here can get into the high 90’s and sometimes can go into the 20’s (though that doesn’t happen very often).

If our class MONSTER used Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) he would make our town a better place to live by working on Sustainable Development Goal #2 (Zero Hunger). He would plant a garden using a variety of fruits and vegetables. As the crops came in, he would distribute them to the various food kitchens/pantries and homeless camps so that no one would have to go to bed hungry and would have the opportunity to eat fresh fruits and vegetables.

Illinois

Mrs. Schoenherr's and Ms. Barbknecht's 3rd graders at River Trail School in Gurnee, Illinois.

Our Latitude: N 42° 22’10.635” Longitude: W 87° 54’19.1594). The average September low temperature is 52°F and the average high temperature for the month is 80°F. Our community is a suburb of Chicago. Gurnee is close to one of the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan. In the summertime, many of us go to the beach to swim in the cool waters of Lake Michigan or play in the sand and climb on the big rocks along the beach. There are many things to do in our town. Our town has some very popular sites. A BIG amusement park called Six Flags is in our town as well as two huge waterparks (Hurricane Harbor and Great Wolf Lodge). We also have a big shopping mall named Gurnee Mills. It is a nice place to live.

Clean Water and Sanitation is our Monster's job:
He sucks up dirty inland water and garbage through his mouth. The water travels to his stomach, where it swishes around and turns the water clean. The clean water is stored in the 3 horns. When 1 of the hidden motion sensors in the horn is set off by a person, water flows.

New Hampshire

Mr. Ferguson's Class -  Hello, Monster Creators around the globe! We are the fourth-grade class at Lafayette Regional School in Franconia, New Hampshire, USA. We have 16 students (9 boys, 7 girls), and we do a lot of fun projects while learning a ton. There are about 90 students, Grades K -6, in our entire school. Our school is nestled in the shadows of Cannon and Lafayette mountains. They are part of the White Mountain National Forest (home to Mt Washington, the world's worst weather.) In the winter, we ski/snowboard those mountains or just take a sled ride down some of the local hills. Spring is sugaring time, and we tap trees. Yum! Yum! We hike the mountains in the summer and swim in places like Echo Lake. Fall is beautiful, with foliage and the leaves turning brilliant reds, yellows, and oranges.

New Mexico

Michael Ramirez's 6th grade gifted class. Our school is named Janet Khan School of Integrated Arts. We are a K-8 school located in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the United States of New Mexico. The high low temperatures in Albuquerque, NM for the month of September were
84° / 58°. The latitude and longitude of Albuquerque, NM is 35.0844° N, 106.6504° W.
We are a kinder through eighth grade public school within the Albuquerque Public schools district, and we focus on integrating the arts into our curriculum.

The class deliberated and then voted and SDG #10 won. We will focus on gender inequalities.

We chose the sustainable goal of Reducing Inequality within and Among Countries because we all know how it feels to be left out whether it's our gender, our color, how we look, how we dress, have disabilities or just how we act in general. We want everyone to feel like equals without changing themselves. We hope the necklace shines a light on this issue.

The small, rural school enables our teachers and staff to create connections with our learners and their families. On our 11 acres, we have 3 large outdoor learning spaces, school gardens, composting area, trails, wooded areas, large playground, an observatory and telescopes, a Roadrunner Lab (makerspace) for exploration and creation, and a DigiLab (technology room).

Our motto is: Wonder ~ Explore ~ Contribute. Together we make our world better. With that motto in mind, our Global STEM Monster will help people obtain access to affordable and clean energy.
